Biography
Embedded computer systems often contain concurrency. My research is addressing the hardware/software codesign of such systems using a communicating process model and a common design language for both components.
In particular, I am investigating the compilation, optimisation and subsequent execution of the Occam programming language directly on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays. This is proving to be a good fast-prototyping tool for FPGA designs.
We are also exploiting fast serial links to provide communication between FPGAs and conventional processors, as well as USB for slower synchronised FPGA interfaces.
My teaching interests include computer architectures and organisation, concurrency, Web-based computing and computer networks.
